VHTA Names Eric D. Terry as New President

Owen Matthews, Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association (VHTA) Chairman, today announced the appointment of Eric D. Terry as the new president of VHTA.

The statement issued by Matthews follows:

On behalf of the Executive Committee and our Association as a whole I am proud to announce the hire of our newly selected President, Eric D. Terry. Throughout the search for VHTA’s new President, our search committee was focused on relationship building, leadership for staff, and financial management. Eric’s confidence, vision, and leadership were among the many traits he displayed that validated him as the chosen candidate. He is eager to propel VHTA to the next level in all capacities.

Eric is a seasoned leader in hospitality with more than thirty years of experience in restaurants, hotels, casinos and entertainment. Launching his career in hospitality during college, Eric brings many years of operations, marketing and development experience in all our member industries. In addition, he has exemplified success in navigating a successful turnaround of a family owned Entertainment Company as well as showing initiative in building his own marketing and event firm. His non-profit experience extends from his service as a board member for various organizations where he exhibited his skills of event marketing, sponsorship fund raising and media partnerships. From an Association experience, Eric has a strong understanding of fundraising and is a proven leader who focuses on exceeding company goals and objectives utilizing innovative ideas based on financial performance. A graduate of the Hospitality and Tourism Management School at Virginia Tech, he has maintained his Virginia ties while overseeing several Virginia hotel properties. Eric is a current member of Meeting Planners International (MPI), the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) and also served as the former President and Vice President of the Crowne Plaza Marketing Association.

I am confident that Eric will lead VHTA into a prosperous new year. Relocating from Houston, Texas, Eric and his wife Leslie and eleven year old son, Reed are excited to be back in familiar territory and are ready to make Virginia their new home.
