I like it when I can do something I’ve never done before … and even better when I can do it for a friend. I’ve known Ron Hallagan for more than a few years, going back to when I first moved here and lived in Del Ray (before it was trendy) and he was an operations vice president for Guest Services Inc. Potowmack Landing (today’s Indigo Landing) was a favorite stop of mine for a view of the river and National Airport to go with a crab cake and beer. Ron also served as treasurer and then as chairman of RAMW during first its bleakest time in 2000 through 2005, marking its finest hour on the road to recovery. He now has his own consulting company and he has just published his first book, The Food Eatery Manager’s Bible. I was so impressed with the book that I wrote its forward … my first ever.

Look for Ron to share his expertise with Foodservice Monthly readers in the near future … in print and online. Why do I recommend The Food Eatery Manager’s Bible … let me quote a passage from my forward:

“Ron Hallagan has written an invaluable resource that I could have turned to for daily guidance as a hotel food and beverage manager during my 20 plus years in hospitality operations. Thinking back to my days as a food and beverage controller, a banquet manager, a dining room manager and then my stints as the food and beverage manager, I cringe to think what I cost my operations as I developed my own trial and error profitable foodservice strategy. Even my food and beverage control class at Cornell couldn’t bridge the gap between the classroom and the actual operations experience.

“When Ron asked if I would take a look at The Food Eatery Manager’s Bible he was writing, I jumped at the opportunity. I was not disappointed. He destroys the notion that foodservice excellence and profitability are mutually exclusive. He ties them together with real life experiences in the same voice I heard speak so eloquently about our hospitality world at our first meeting.”

I ordered a copy for my phone and the book version at Amazon.com
