The RAMMY Awards Gala Names RAMW’s Best of 2013

More than 1,600 guests gathered at the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington‘s (RAMW) annual RAMMY Awards gala Sunday night to celebrate the outstanding achievements and excellence in the Metropolitan Washington restaurant industry. Host venue, the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, saw chefs, restaurateurs and key restaurant industry players awarded prestigious honors including “Fine Dining Restaurant,” “Upscale Casual Restaurant” and “Restaurant Employee of the Year.”

2013 Chef of they Year went to Fabio Trabocchi of Fiola and Ashok Bajaj was named Restaurateur of the Year by the Association. Blue Duck Tavern was named Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year. Cedric Maupillier’s Mintwood Place took honors as Best New restaurant.

The Honorary Milestone RAMMY was awarded to the Clyde’s of Gerogetown which celebrates this year 50 years as an American bar. Announced earlier, RAMW awarded the Duke Zeibert Capital Achievement Award to former former DC restaurateur Linda Lee who gave in her acceptance speech an inspired recap of the years she spent as a leader and activist in the DC Chinatown.

Two of Foodservice Monthly’s favorite awards went to Luis Noriega as Employee of the year for his work as a server at Zengo in Penn Quarter and Manager of the Year Michael Nevarez, director of operations for Vidalia, Bistro Bis and Woodward Table.

The RAMMY Awards were presented during a seated ceremony, which preceded an evening of dinner, dancing and celebration. Food and beverage pavilions featured a wealth of offerings from some of the event’s key sponsors, including Australia, Chile, Peru, Mexico and Virginia. Food for the RAMMY guests came from local/regional distributors Belair Produce, Profish, Coastal Sunbelt Produce, Keany Produce and SYSCO.
