A Washington, DC dining institution celebrating its 50th year in business, Clyde’s of Georgetown will be awarded the 2013 Honorary Milestone RAMMY Award from the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW). Honoring longstanding local restaurants and RAMW members which have been in business for at least 50 years, the honorary milestone award is bestowed onto only the DC region’s most notable dining institutions and will be formally announced at the 2013 RAMMY Gala on Sunday, June 23 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
In 1963, Clyde’s founder Stuart Davidson opened up the neighborhood watering hole on Georgetown’s famed M Street, long before it was the bustling shopping destination it is today. It has since served as a meeting place for politicos and power players, eatery for District residents and tourists alike, and even an inspiration for the 1976 hit song, Afternoon Delight. Clyde’s group of restaurants has grown from its original Georgetown site to 14 locations throughout DC, Maryland and Virginia.
“A hearty Congratulations to Clyde’s of Georgetown on 50 years!” said DC Councilmember Jack Evans. “Clyde’s is one of the premiere restaurants in Washington, DC and the metropolitan region. Founding owners Stuart and Sally Davidson created such a wonderful place with Clyde’s and co-founders Ginger and John Laytham are such pillars of the community. They are always willing to work collaboratively with neighbors and local organizations, in addition to serving great food for so many years. In a world that changes sometimes too fast, Clyde’s can always be counted on to be a consistent asset of the District.”
Clyde’s Founder and Chairman of the Board, Sally Davidson, will accept the award at the RAMMYS on behalf of the founding owners. Past Honorary Milestone winners have included Tune Inn in 2012, The Monocle on Capitol Hill in 2010, Martin’s Tavern in 2009 and Ben’s Chili Bowl in 2008. This year’s RAMMY Gala theme is “Restaurants in Bloom” honoring the outstanding chefs, restaurateurs and industry professionals who have made the DC region’s food scene the blooming dining destination that it is.
Tickets to the 2013 RAMMY Awards are available for $225 for RAMW members, $300 for non-members, and may be purchased online at www.therammys.org, by calling 202.331.5990 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
